Sanford School lecturers discuss why kids call their parents ‘Mom’ and ‘Dad’

Why do almost all kids use the names ‘Mom’ and ‘Dad’ for their parents? In a recent article for The Conversation, Denise Bodman and Bethany Van Vleet, mother and daughter lecturers from ASU’s T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics, take a closer look into this global phenomenon.

From an infant’s first sounds to cultural roles, the common words used to identify parents and even grandparents takes shape early on and continue for generations.
