ASU English professor doubles as Stone Cold Jane Austen

May 08, 2014

In addition to teaching courses and writing books, Arizona State University English professor Devoney Looser doubles as Stone Cold Jane Austen on the roller derby rink. She recently penned an article for Slate Magazine on the systemic problems in college sports.

In addition to playing roller derby, Looser serves as faculty adviser to one of the world’s first college roller derby teams.

"From what I have seen, roller derby is a model for combining the positive possibilities of college extracurricular experiences with the benefits of organized sports," Looser writes.
