ASU alumna is 1st female commander in military air campaign

April 25, 2011

The recent U.S. operation in Libya marked the first time in American history that a woman – Major General Maggie Woodward, an ASU alumna – commanded a military air campaign, as reported in Time Magazine.

Woodward said she hopes that she is a role model to both men and women, boys and girls.

The article states: "Woodward entered the service after graduating from Arizona State University in 1982 and was soon piloting KC-135 tankers as they refueled fighters and bombers in midair during U.S. military action in Panama and the Balkans."
