Aiming high in 2015 United Way campaign

Arizona State University’s 2015 United Way campaign is underway, and there are a million ways the ASU community can help those in need in Maricopa County.

At least, that’s the aim of ASU President Michael M. Crow.

“This year, I am asking the ASU community to step up to the challenge and help us achieve our goal of $700,000, but I would like to see us surpass that goal and get to $1 million – and I think we can do it,” he said in an email to ASU faculty and staff. “As a New American University rooted in the community, it is our commitment to assume fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities we serve.”

As of Oct. 7, more than $333,000 had been raised. The campaign runs through Nov. 13.

Since 1925, the Valley of the Sun United Way has served the needs of individuals and families in Maricopa County, but they rely on the support of volunteers, partners, donors and business supporters. From ending homelessness to helping kids succeed, the organization is transforming individual lives and entire communities.

Helping others is a reward unto itself, but those who donate to ASU’s United Way campaign are also entered in biweekly drawings for prizes ranging sports tickets to autographed basketballs to a foursome at Karsten Golf Course, depending on the level of giving.

And for those who want to give of their time, too, click here for volunteer opportunities.

There are two ways to pledge to the campaign:

• Online:  ePledge — Use your ASURITE ID and password to sign in. Click “give now” to complete your donation. ePledge donations must be made by Nov. 13.

• Paper: Get the ASU United Way Pledge Form. Return to: ASU United Way, Attn: Katie Aguilar, Mail Code  1304.
