Wooden illusions: Professor brings woodwork to life
His sculptures make you wonder. Are they really made of wood?
Tom Eckert, professor of art, teaches the art of woodworking at ASU. Eckert relates his wood sculpting style to realistic painting. His wooden sculptures deceive the eye. He can transform wood into sculptures of playing cards covered by a veil or stacked plates that look ready to topple over. In this research video Eckert discusses his art, woodworking techniques and teaching.
