Women's tennis remains undefeated in Pac-10 play with 5-2 win over Huskies

The 16th-ranked Arizona State women’s tennis team (13-3) defeated conference opponent Washington, 5-2, on the road to remain unbeaten in the Pac-10 at 3-0.

The Sun Devils opened up the match by sweeping the doubles points, including a dominating performance by the doubles pair of Sianna Simmons and Ashlee Brown. Playing in the No. 3 spot, Simmons and Brown held their opponents scoreless in the match.

In singles play, ASU handily took the No. 3-No. 6 spots in the line-up. Senior Micaela Hein defeated UW’s Samantha Smith, 6-3, 6-1, just days have blanking DePaul, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Hannah James, who returned to the line-up for the first time since being named Pac-10 Player of the Week, defeated Husky Aleksandra Krsljanin 6-2, 6-2.

Both senior Kelcy McKenna and freshman Jacqueline Cako each dropped their singles matches, with Cako battling into tiebreakers for both sets. Cako had an 18-match singles winning streak heading into the meet.

The Sun Devils face a tough test as they travel to the Bay Area, Apr. 1-2, to take on No. 2 Stanford and No. 10 California, with both matches counting towards the Pac-10 standings.
