Women's tennis earns two victories at Cal Nike Invitational

The Arizona State women’s tennis team concluded the final round of the Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif., Oct. 2, with two victories on the day.

In round robin play seniors Michelle Brycki and Sianna Simmons earned victories on the singles courts. Brycki defeated California’s Cessi Estalnder, 6-1; 3-6; 1-0 (9), while Simmons defeated Saint Mary’s Jade Frampton, 6-3; 0-6; 1-0 (4).

Competing in the doubles consolation finals, the Sun Devil pair of Simmons and junior Hannah James fell to the Saint Mary’s doubles duo of Frampton/Jullien, 8-1.

James and freshman Joanna Smith also competed in round robin singles play, however, both players would drop their matches. Saint Mary’s Ana Chkhkivishvili defeated James, 6-4; 6-4, while Smith fell to Saint Mary’s Catherine Leduc, 6-3; 6-7 (5); 1-0 (2).

Next up, the Sun Devils compete in the All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif., Oct. 4-9.
