Women's golf takes second at Rancho Bernardo

March 21, 2012

The eighth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team finished in second place at the Battle of Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, Calif., Tuesday, over a 16-team field which featured seven teams ranked in the top-25. The Sun Devils shot a two-day total of 16-over 592 (295-297), two strokes behind first-place USC. ASU’s second-place finish is the team’s highest since also taking second place at the Dale McNamara Invitational, Sept. 12-14.

Senior Giulia Molinaro led the Sun Devil line-up finishing in a tie for fourth place after shooting a 2-over 146 (73-73) for the two-round tournament. Molinaro’s performance is her fifth top-10 finish of the season, with all seven appearances falling in the top-15 in 2011-12.

Sophomore Justine Lee tied for ninth place at the Battle of Rancho Bernard, shooting a team-low 72 in the second round for a tournament total 3-over 147 (75-72). On the season, Lee has recorded three top-10 finishes.

As a team, four out the five Sun Devil golfers in the line-up finished the tournament in the top-25. Next up, the Sun Devils return home to host the 2012 PING/ASU Invitational, Mar. 30-Apr. 1, at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
