West Valley Symphony to perform at West campus

The La Sala Ballroom at ASU’s West campus will host a concert by the West Valley Symphony at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 3.

Conducted by Cal Stewart Kellogg, this dynamic orchestra will perform Dvorak’s serene yet moving Symphony No. 8 and Tchaikovsky’s beautiful yet technically demanding Violin Concerto, featuring recording artist and ASU professor Katherine McLin as soloist.

The West Valley Symphony is the only professional orchestra based in, and serving, the West Valley communities, and this year marks its 44th year of doing so. Cal Stewart Kellogg was named the orchestra’s music director and conductor in April 2009. Maestro Kellogg continues to be an audience favorite, thanks to his personable style and exceptional talent, leading the orchestra in truly stirring performances.

Violinist Katherine McLin enjoys an extremely varied and prolific performing career as a concerto soloist, recitalist, and chamber and orchestral musician. Since her debut with the Oregon Symphony at the age of fifteen, McLin has made more than 40 appearances as a soloist with orchestras across the country. A committed and passionate teacher, McLin won the 2004 Distinguished Teacher Award for the College of Fine Arts at ASU, chosen from more than 170 faculty, and was a finalist for the 2007 university-wide ASU Professor of the Year award.

The campus is at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix. There is no charge for visitor parking on weekends.
