Walmart now open on ASU's Tempe campus

May 17, 2013

A recent azfamily.com story covered the opening of a new Walmart store on ASU’s Tempe campus, May 15.

The store is only the second “Walmart on Campus” in the country and is located in the Vista del Sol Plaza, near Rural and Apache.

"The new location functions as a convenience store, and offers ASU students and faculty easier access to Walmart's ‘everyday low prices,’” according to a press release.

Compared to other Walmart locations – such as the Supercenter in Paradise Valley, which measures about 100,000 square-feet – the store is much smaller. It measures just 5,000 square-feet and will employ just 10 associates.

The store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., weekdays and Saturdays, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Sundays. The location will include a pharmacy with Walmart's signature $4 prescription program.

"The new Walmart on Campus is going to be a wonderful amenity for the students of ASU," said Mary Ann Miller, president and CEO of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce. She added that the new location "will add to the convenience of living on or next to campus."
