W. P. Carey School ranked among nation's best again

April 15, 2010

U.S. News & World Report once again ranks the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University among the top graduate schools in the country. On the publication’s newly unveiled list of “America’s Best Graduate Schools” for business, the school comes in at No. 27, improving two spots from last year and making it the only Arizona school on the Top 50 list this year.

The W. P. Carey School has ranked in the top 30 three years in a row for its full-time MBA program, demonstrating consistent excellence. This year, the school is among the top five universities in the western United States and No. 11 among public schools in the nation.

“In the W. P. Carey MBA program, we focus on providing a world-class education centered on leadership, small class sizes and an exceptional faculty,” says Beth Walker, associate dean of the W. P. Carey MBA. “We’re always proud to be recognized with these rankings, but we are also keenly aware and appreciative of the great work done by our faculty, staff and students every day.”

In addition to the new overall ranking for the full-time MBA program, the W. P. Carey School of Business also scored high on the latest U.S. News & World Report business “specialties” lists. The school’s evening MBA program, offered at multiple locations throughout the Phoenix area, is among the top 20 in the nation this year for “Part-time MBA Schools.” That’s four spots better than last year and above any other Arizona institution. The 21-month W. P. Carey evening MBA program offers a high-caliber core business curriculum, with the ability to specialize in several areas of emphasis, including finance, health care management, international business, marketing and supply chain management.

Several of the school’s departments also ranked well on the “specialties” lists. The internationally acclaimed supply chain management program ranks No. 5 in the nation for supply chain/logistics. The information systems program comes in at No. 16 in its field, and the accounting program ranks No. 27 for its specialty. The most recent ranking for healthcare management also has Arizona State University at No. 25.

“The W. P. Carey School of Business is recognized as a top business school for many reasons,” explains Dean Robert Mittelstaedt. “Along with our highly ranked programs and renowned faculty members, we also have an expansive alumni network of more than 60,000 and strong career placement services that drew about 1,300 recruiters to the school last year during a deep recession.”

The W. P. Carey School of Business has also achieved many other high rankings over the past year:

• The school was named among the top 25 in the world for business school research productivity, according to the University of Texas at Dallas.

• The Financial Times, Britain’s equivalent of The Wall Street Journal, ranked the school’s executive MBA program in China among the top 50 EMBA programs in the world.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek just ranked the school among the top 20 business schools in the country for “Return on Investment,” comparing annual tuition with the median base salary students receive at graduation.

Out of the top 30 full-time MBA programs on the new U.S. News & World Report list, the W. P. Carey School of Business is among the two most affordable schools, a noteworthy value.
