Twilight tours focus on petroglyphs, plants

Twilight. That magic time of day when it’s not daytime – but not quite nighttime, either.

Deer Valley Rock Art Center’s public educators will celebrate that transition hour by offering special Twilight Tours six times this summer, beginning June 12.

The tours will introduce guests to the petroglyphs, archaeology and desert plants of the center, and focus on Native American cultures.

The tours will be offered from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays, June 12 and 26; July 10 and 24; and Aug. 7 and 21.

Admission is $6.50 for adults; $3.50 for seniors and students; and $2.50 for children 12 and younger.

Arizona State University’s Deer Valley Rock Art Center has the largest concentration of Native American petroglyphs in the Phoenix Valley. Visitors hike a 1/4-mile trail to view more than 1,500 petroglyphs made between 800 and 5,000 years ago.

The Center is managed by one of the top archaeology programs in the country at ASU and is a Phoenix Point of Pride. DVRAC is located at 3711 W. Deer Valley Road, two blocks west of 35th Avenue.
