Sun Devils support Pat's Run with shadow runs across US

Pat's Run
April 03, 2014

Arizona State University alumni and fans around the country will honor the legacy of former ASU Sun Devils and Arizona Cardinals football player Pat Tillman in conjunction with the 10th annual Pat’s Run, being held in Tempe, Ariz. on April 26.

The 4.2-mile run/walk, which last year drew more than 30,000 people in Tempe, is the signature fundraising event for the Pat Tillman Foundation, which was formed after Tillman’s death in 2004. Proceeds from Pat’s Run support the organization’s Tillman Military Scholars program, which supports active and veteran military service members and their spouses by removing financial barriers to completing a degree program of choice.

ASU alumni and students will be staffing the Mile 1 aid station at the race in Tempe from 5:30-10 a.m. Additionally, this year, 33 U.S. chapters of the ASU Alumni Association will host “shadow runs” across the United States in conjunction with the Tempe event. The shadow runs are community-oriented affairs, commonly held at parks, schools and recreation areas. The shadow runs have grown from 150 runners participating in 2009 to 1,323 runners participating last year.
