Sun Devils head into second-half of Pac-10 play

February 4, 2009

The Arizona State's men's hoops team, 16-5 and 5-4 in the Pac-10, travels to Oregon this weekend to start the second half of Pac-10 play.

Although currently on its first two-game losing streak since last February, ASU has a winning record at the halfway point of the Pac-10 season for just the second time in the past 14 seasons (5-4 in 2002-2003) and just ninth time in 31 Pac-10 seasons as in the previous three years it was 5-22 in the first half of Pac-10 play. ASU meets the Ducks  Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and then plays the Beavers at 5:30 p.m.,  Feb. 7.

ASU coach Herb Sendek spoke about the upcoming trip during his weekly meeting with the local news media.

Sendek, in his third season with ASU, is one win away from 300 career coaching victories. With one more win Coach Sendek will become the second-youngest active coach with 300 Division I wins, only Florida's Billy Donvan is younger. Even with a resume that includes coaching in 497 games at three schools, six NCAA tournaments, 12 NCAA Tournament games and having eight former assistants currently serving as head coaches at the Division-I level, Sendek is still the third-youngest coach in the Pac-10.
