"The annual goal for every college football team is to have a successful season and play in a bowl game,” head coach Todd Graham said. “We are very proud to have reached that goal by participating in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl against a worthy opponent such as the U.S. Naval Academy. It will be an honor to travel to and participate in this wonderful bowl experience in one of America’s greatest cities. It will be our pleasure to fulfill all of the expectations of The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl committee and of their community and to represent the Sun Devil Nation with class and character.”
Arizona State will be making its 26th bowl appearance and its second in the past two seasons. This will be the Sun Devils' first appearance in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.
“We are very proud to be able to represent Arizona State University and the Pacific-12 Conference in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl for 2012,” said Steve Patterson, ASU vice president for University Athletics. “This invitation is the culmination of a fine first season for Head Coach Todd Graham, his coaching staff and his student-athletes. The Bay Area is one of ASU’s most important markets with over 26,000 alumni and related associates. We are grateful to the executive committee of the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, the administration of the Pacific-12 Conference Office and the City of San Francisco for providing this fine opportunity to showcase the ASU brand to a national audience. Our fans have a wonderful bowl experience to look forward to We encourage them to come out and enjoy all that San Francisco and the Kraft Hunger Bowl have to offer.”
The Sun Devils finished the regular season with a 7-5 mark and a 5-4 record in Pac-12 play. ASU won three conference road games, including a 41-34 Territorial Cup victory in Tucson, for just for the fifth time in school history.
The Sun Devils have never faced Navy in their history. The Midshipmen, who are currently 7-4 and finish their regular season against Army on Dec. 8 in Philadelphia, will be making their 18th all-time bowl appearance and ninth in t

“Playing in a nationally televised bowl game against a storied program like Navy for a chance at an eighth win is a fitting way for this senior class to end our Sun Devil careers,” senior linebacker Brandon Magee said. “We are excited to act as the ambassadors for this program, university and community during our stay in San Francisco, and I hope Sun Devil fans will be up there supporting us.”
