Sessions offer details on ASU teacher certification programs
Bachelor’s and master’s degree programs leading to Arizona teacher certification are the subject of several upcoming information sessions at Arizona State University’s Polytechnic campus.
At the Polytechnic campus, ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College offers undergraduate degrees in elementary education, secondary education, physical education, and a dual-certification degree combining special education with either early childhood or elementary education.
A new evening bachelor’s degree program offering dual certification in special education and elementary education, designed to meet the needs of community college transfer students, will debut this fall.
For students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in another field, Teachers College at the Polytechnic campus offers Master’s and Arizona Certification (MAC) programs in secondary education, physical education, and dual-certification special education/elementary education.
One MAC program is designed specifically for people with a degree in math or science, or at least 24 credit hours in a math or science discipline, who wish to become a secondary school teacher. Teachers College’s TEAMS (Teacher Education for Arizona Math & Science) program offers numerous potential forms of financial support for students, including an $18,000 living wage provided through a partnership with the Mesa Unified School District.
“Our teacher preparation programs at both the bachelor’s and master’s level have a great reputation for producing high-quality teachers who have successfully completed rigorous coursework, field experiences and student teaching,” said Barbara Giles, assistant dean in Teachers College. “We maintain strong partnerships with school districts around the Valley and across the state, and we work closely to ensure the preparation our students receive is consistent with the skills and qualities districts are looking for when hiring teachers.”
