Researchers win $10,000 grant for writing study

The Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), an association within the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), has awarded a 2010-2011 CCCC Research Initiative Grant to ASU's Paul Kei Matsuda and Tanita Saenkhum for their proposal, “The Placement of Multilingual Writers in First-Year Composition Courses in U.S. Colleges and Universities: A Nationwide Survey.”

Established in 2004, this program currently awards grants of up to $10,000 for research that will advance the organization. The CCCC supports and promotes the teaching and study of college composition and communication by sponsoring meetings and publishing scholarly materials for the exchange of knowledge about composition, composition pedagogy, and rhetoric; supporting a wide range of research on composition, communication, and rhetoric; working to enhance the conditions for learning and teaching college composition and to promote professional development; and acting as an advocate for language and literacy education nationally and internationally.

At the 2011 CCCC Annual Convention, April 7, in Atlanta, Paul Kei Matsuda and Tanita Saenkhum will be publicly announced as recipients of a CCCC Research Initiative Grant.
