Project Civil Discourse Week proclaimed

A statewide effort, co-sponsored by the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, that promotes collaborative problem-solving to improve public dialogue and discussion about important issues facing Arizona has received a boost from Gov. Janet Napolitano.

The governor proclaimed Oct. 19-25 Project Civil Discourse Week, and with that, praised the program's organizers, which include the Lodestar Dispute Resolution Program at the College of Law, and the Arizona Humanities Council, among others.

"The partners of Project Civil Discourse have created statewide programs to engage Arizona's citizens in the methods and practice of respectful civil discourse, with emphasis on such prominent issues as immigration, affirmative action, sustainability, and cross-cultural understanding," the proclamation stated.

A lecture series, "Project Civil Discourse: The Science of Consensus," will present two free programs at the Arizona Science Center: "Ethical Behavior and Public Virtue," with Richard Morrison, an attorney at Salmon, Lewis & Weldon, P.L.C., on Oct. 30, and "The Psychology of Persuasion," with Robert Cialdini, Regents' Professor of Psychology and a W.P. Carey Distinguished Professor of Marketing at ASU, Nov. 13. Both programs are from 7-8:30 p.m.
