Professor to lead Dragonfly Walk

The expertise of Pierre Deviche, a professor in the School of Life Sciences, within ASU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will be featured in the upcoming Arboretum Dragonfly Walk, at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, Ariz., Sept. 1.

Deviche will lead the guided walk around the gardens in search of Flame Skimmer and Blue Dasher dragonflies – fascinating insects with a  rich heritage of folklore that are noted for their excellent vision – but can't hear – and six legs – but can't walk.

According to research, dragonflies have existed for more than 300 million years – outlasting the dinosaurs – and depending on the culture, they are either feared or revered.

The Dragonfly Walk begins at 8:30 a.m., Sept. 1, and is open to the public. The cost of admission is $9 ($4.50 for children ages 5-12).
