Professor gives advice on complaining to your boss

Jeffrey Kassing, a communication professor in ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and author of the book “Dissent in Organizations,” offered advice for those looking to successfully lodge a complaint in the workplace.

In an article entitled "How not to confront your boss," Kassing addressed topics including going above your boss.

“Unequivocally, you’re going to put your relationship with your supervisor at risk,” Kassing said, which is why circumvention is often a last-ditch attempt before resignation. “People need to clearly balance the importance of the issue to them against the effect that it’s having on the superior-subordinate relationship.”
