Nature's algorithms inspire architectural designs

January 4, 2012

Beyond the appearance of a tree, a branch or a simple leaf, there are mathematical patterns at play in nature.

Understanding nature's basic algorithms allows architects such as David Newton, a professor in The Design School, part of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, to explore natural systems that can be translated into efficient designs and awe-inspiring architecture.
