Men's golf heads to Las Vegas for three-day tournament

March 13, 2009

The No.9 Sun Devils will look to add another championship to their shelf when the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship kicks off March 13. The 54-hole stroke play event takes place over the course of three days in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the par 72 Southern Highlands Golf Club.

Braxton Marquez, the lowest scorer for ASU in the Lexus Classic three days ago in Fresno, is one of five Sun Devils in the lineup for the Championship. James Byrne, who also played just three days ago, will join fellow sophomores Stephan Gross and Jesper Kennegard in Nevada. Junior Knut Borsheim, who last finished in 15th place in the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, is the fifth member of the squad.

Joining the Sun Devils in Las Vegas, who moved up one spot to No. 9 in The Golf World/ Nike College Coaches' Poll, will be nine other teams ranked in the coaches' top 25. Among them are Georgia, Southern California, Oklahoma State, and Clemson, the top four ranked teams in the country.

Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com, starting at 8 a.m.
