McCain Institute launches 'Debate and Decision' series

In the best American tradition of open inquiry and spirited discussion, the ASU McCain Institute for International Leadership launches its Debate and Decision series with the inaugural event Should the United States Save Syria?

A distinguished group of debaters will tackle the topic during the live event Jan. 30 moderated by CNN's Elise Labott at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The event also will be webcast live on ASUtv

The debate will feature Robert Kagan, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; Leon Wieseltier, literary editor of the New Republic; Joshua Landis, director of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma; and Aaron David Miller, a Distinguished Scholar at the Wilson Center. They will engage in a lively discussion on Syria and the role of the United States in mitigating the conflict.

There will be an audience question-and-answer period in which audience participation is strongly encouraged. The debate is part of a series focused on developing practical policy options to global problems.
