Managing director, journal editor earns Distinguished Service Award

February 27, 2013

The Society for Range Management recently honored Lori Hidinger for her work as editor of the peer-reviewed journal Rangelands.

Hidinger, the managing director for the Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes, was given an award for Distinguished Service for Editorial Excellence at the Society’s 66th Annual Meeting, Technical Training and Trade Show in Oklahoma City in February. She began her helm as editor in October 2009.

“It was a surprise, but it was very gratifying as I have spent a great deal of time trying to make Rangelands more accessible,” said Hidinger.

This is not the first recognition for her role as editor; earlier this year Hidinger received a Gold Excel Award from the Association of Media and Publishing for general excellence in a journal publication.

“Rangelands has gone from not making any money to breaking even under my editorship and I think that is one of the reasons for the award,” said Hidinger. “I believe Rangelands has become more visible under my leadership and I think the board was recognizing that.”

While Hidinger is proud of the work she has done as editor of Rangelands, she is quick to thank those who also contribute to the journal.

“Rangelands' success has been a team effort from the steering committee, the staff at Allen Press and all the authors and contributors,” said Hidinger. “It is everyone’s commitment that has helped improve the quality of the journal."
