Institute for Humanities Research request for nomination of ASU authors

December 06, 2012

The 2013 Transdisciplinary Book Award honors a work of academic non-fiction by an Arizona State University humanities faculty member on any campus. To be eligible, books must be written in English, published in 2011 or 2012, and written or co-written by a tenured or tenure-track, full-time ASU faculty member whose work reflects the finest contemporary transdisciplinary humanities-based scholarship on any topic.

A book that is transdisciplinary in methodology and scope works between, among, and within foundational models set-up by disciplines and transforms or transcends those disciplines by: restructuring conventional idea systems and practices; developing new knowledge frameworks or domains; or constructing new paradigms or focal concepts. In keeping with the mission of the IHR, the book should also focus on compelling topics of social or cultural importance – past, present, or future. Edited collections are not eligible.

Books may be nominated by the author(s), their colleagues, or publishers (one book per author). The winning book will receive a cash award of $1000, advertisement in IHR materials, and an award certificate. The author(s) will be featured at an awards ceremony and be asked to give a presentation which engages a discussion of the winning book. For each nomination, please arrange for the publisher to send 4 copies of the book to the IHR (if any questions arise, submit nomination and contact the IHR at 480-965-3000).
