Graduate honored for outstanding contributions

Nicole Bruno, graduating from the College of Public Programs with her master’s degree in social work, was named as the recipient of the ASU Commission on the Status of Women’s 2011 Outstanding Contribution and Achievement Award.  The award identifies and recognizes individuals or groups who most exemplify and further the mission of the ASU Commission on the Status of Women.

She is part of the Center for Progressive Leaders 2011 Fellowship and the Community Relations Intern for the Office of Gerontological Social Work Initiatives.  In 2009-2010, she served as the president of the Social Work Student Organization and MSW Foundation Representative. 

Currently, she is the vice president of Phi Alpha Honor Society in Social Work and the outreach coordinator for the Woman as Hero student organization.  Bruno is a dual-degree master’s student, expecting to complete her master’s in public affairs in May 2012.  She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from ASU in 2008. 

Bruno plans to work for Child Protective Services for two years or more and eventually become a practicing clinician.  She hopes to further her career and skills by advancing to clinical therapy with individuals and families, specializing in alternative and progressive theories such as drama therapy, pet therapy, focusing on the arts and music.
