Global health student will study in London under Marshall Scholarship

December 04, 2013

Arizona State University global health graduate student Madeline Sands has been named a Marshall Scholar by the British government.

This honor is bestowed annually on no more than 40 U.S. students.

Sands, who graduated from ASU earlier this year with a bachelor’s in anthropology, is on track to receive her master’s next May. She will then undertake further graduate studies at the British institution of her choosing before moving on to medical school.

As reported on KTAR, she has opted for the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

The highly awarded Sands is also the co-founder of Hydrogene, a company that is developing a portable, affordable device for detecting water-borne pathogens, a leading cause of illness and death in developing nations.

As an undergraduate, Sands was a Barrett, the Honors College student, as well as a student in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, home to her anthropology and global health programs.
