Freshman violinist to perform with owner of 'Red Violin'

February 18, 2013

Nineteen-year-old violinist Emilio Vazquez, a music performance freshman in the School of Music, part of ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, travels to Anthem every week to rehearse with the ProMusica Arizona Orchestra in preparation of their upcoming performance, "A Night with Stradivarius."

Guest violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn, who plays the 1720 Mendelssohn Red Stradivarius violin – the inspiration for the Academy Award winning documentary film "The Red Violin" – will join the orchestra performance, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., March 23, in the Orpheum Theatre.

Vazquez will not only be the concertmaster at the event, he will be performing a duet with Pitcairn that will accompany one of the chorale pieces.
