Fixico to speak on historical Native American leaders

As part of the PBS series, titled "We Shall Remain," featuring Native American films, one of the series advisors will present at Arizona State University's Polytechnic campus, April 15. The series represents an unprecedented collaboration between Native and non-Native filmmakers and involves Native advisors and scholars at all levels of the project.

In this special lecture and film screening event, ASU history professor Donald Fixico (Shawnee, Sac & Fox, Muscogee Creek and Seminole) will talk about the making of the PBS Documentary Series "We Shall Remain" that begins airing April 13. He will focus on historical figures featured in the films, specifically on Geronimo and Tecumseh, and why the series highlighted their legacies of leadership.

Fixico is a Distinguished Foundation Professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on the Tempe campus. He is a policy historian and ethno-historian. His work focuses on American Indians, oral history and the U.S. West.

All are invited to the free screening and to hear Fixico speak of "Geronimo and Tecumseh: Examples of Leadership" on April 15, 7:15 p.m., Agribusiness Center, Room 134.
