Downtown Phoenix campus construction update

September 01, 2010

Demolition work on the vacant Ramada Inn, 401 N. 1st St., Phoenix, located between Polk and Taylor Streets and 1st and 2nd Streets is expected to commence on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010. Work will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. The demolition phase is expected to finish by early November.

The site will eventually be converted into a temporary surface parking lot that will handle over-flow parking for the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel and parking to support 12 News as they transition to downtown Phoenix. Construction of the lot is expected to be complete by February 2011. Once funding is secured, the site will be used to expand the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus.

Efforts have been made to blunt the impact to the residents of ASU’s Taylor Place Residence Hall. These efforts include: routing the construction traffic to 2nd and Polk Streets and limiting the impact to Taylor Street as much as possible; meetings with Taylor Place residents and the ASU community as needed; communication and outreach plans regarding the construction, dust abatement efforts and distribution of ear plugs to Taylor Place residents upon request.

The ASU community can forward questions or concerns to dpcgrows@asu.edu. Weekly construction updates will be provided on the Downtown Phoenix campus website; on Facebook; and on Twitter. Communication will also be sent out via the Downtown Devils newsletters to faculty, staff and students and email to all members of the campus community.
