ASU study examines impact of cameras on police officers

October 11, 2012

Phoenix NPR station KJZZ profiled the Mesa Police Department testing the use of mini-cameras mounted on officer uniforms. The pen-sized cams record what the officer is seeing and can be used as evidence.

KJZZ reporter Nadine Arroyo Rodriguez interviewed Justin Ready, an assistant professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the ASU downtown campus. Ready said he expects most major police agencies to require the use of such cameras in the future. He and a team of ASU researchers are studying the use of body mounted cameras by police agencies nationwide. Ready said the cameras could affect how officers act in the field.
