ASU Project Humanities presents sketch comedy 'The Love Thing'

A hilarious sketch comedy about relationships, "The Love Thing," will return to the stage Feb. 13-15 at the Paul V. Galvin Playhouse at Arizona State University’s Nelson Fine Arts Center, 501 E. 10th St., in Tempe.

Written and directed by Phoenix native Iris Huey, and presented in partnership with ASU Project Humanities, this highly entertaining, laugh-out-loud show aims to put some fun in your Valentine’s Day weekend.

"The Love Thing," which premiered September 2014 at The Black Theatre Troupe in Phoenix, is an original stage play comprised of a series of skits, each dealing with a different but common relationship dilemma. The show, which is crammed with comedy, also reinforces ideals like authenticity, communicating honestly and responding with love. 

“It’s been a dream of mine for some time to put on a show like this,” said Huey, who also stars in the production. “I love writing about relationships and wanted to create a show that not only makes people laugh, but also encourages people to have more loving relationships.”

Project Humanities coordinator Sharon Torres said the play’s themes of love and relationships speaks to what makes us human.

"'The Love Thing' is a reminder that no matter who you are, where you are from [or] what you believe in, being kind, empathetic, compassionate, respectful, honest and forgiving are key to maintaining healthy relationships," Torres said. "These values are at the heart of the Humanity 101 movement.”

A portion of the proceeds for "The Love Thing" will support ASU Project Humanities programs.
