ASU policy journal in top 15 for impact

July 09, 2013

Arizona State University's Journal of Policy History was ranked 13 among history journals by Thomson Reuters for 2012. The journal, published by Cambridge, is edited by Donald Critchlow, a professor in the School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies. While designed to engage scholars, the journal also seeks to inform policymakers through a historical approach to public policy.

The impact factor of an academic journal reflects the number of times its articles are cited by scholars and agencies. Reuter’s impact measures are often used to establish the relative importance of a journal within its field. The Journal of Policy History has an impact factor of 0.553, placing it 13 out of 69 in the history category and 91 out of 157 in the political science category, an impressive ranking for a journal in its first year of inclusion.

Critchlow teaches courses on American conservatism and contemporary American history. He is co-director of an undergraduate certificate program, Political Thought and Leadership, started in 2012. His recent book, "The Conservative Ascendancy," was hailed by The American Conservative as “perhaps the best scholarly overview of the conservative movement in print.” His upcoming book, "When Hollywood Was Right," will be published in August 2013.

Prior to his service with ASU, Critchlow taught at Hong Kong University, Warsaw University, Saint Louis University and University of Notre Dame, among others.

The School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies is an academic unit of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University.
