ASU honors its military veterans at Nov. 17 Salute to Service event

November 08, 2012

During the week following Veterans Day, the Arizona State University Alumni Association will partner with the Arizona State University Foundation and Sun Devil Athletics to honor the service of all university faculty, staff, students and alumni who have served in the military. The association will participate in a full slate of events before and during the Nov. 17 home game against Washington State University.

The “Sun Devil Salute to Service” will include a pre-game joint military color guard, comprised of current ASU students, and official recognition of veterans during the game. Current students and alumni who are veterans may purchase game tickets at a special rate and socialize at a tailgate hosted by the Veterans chapter of the Alumni Association.
Christine K. Wilkinson, president of the Alumni Association, said, “We actively have been seeking new ways to support America’s military veterans who are part of the ASU community. We have partnered with the Pat Tillman Foundation and supported their Pat’s Run fundraiser, and we have worked with alumni to create the association’s Veterans chapter. The Sun Devil Salute to Service continues ASU’s engagement with those who have bravely served our country, and we’re pleased to be a part of it.”

Tickets for the Nov. 17 game are available by visiting http://SunDevilTickets.com, selecting “promotions” from the drop-down menu and entering ASUVET when prompted. The veterans tailgate will take place two-and-a-half hours before game time at the Devils on Mill event, which takes place at 6th Street Park in downtown Tempe; it is free to attend with RSVP, and food is available to purchase at the event for $10.
