ASU campuses: a living solar laboratory
Capturing solar energy from building rooftops, parking garages and lots, and from the PowerParasol – an innovative, 24-foot-high platform that spans more than 5 acres – Arizona State University has created the largest single university solar system in the country, with the help of utility and private industry partnerships.
ASU currently generates approximately 29 percent of its daytime power needs.
Creating a leading solar program that not only uses the Valley's natural resources, but teaches students about sustainability, ASU is turning its campuses into a solar laboratory and is expected to generate 17 megawatts of solar power by the end of 2012.
