A collaborative art exhibit and event, “Peace of Mind: a Tribute to Debra Friedman’s Life and Legacy,” will take place on two dates in April at Obliq Gallery and Gallery LUxx at the Arizona Center, 400 E. Van Buren St., Phoenix.

The free event honors the late Debra Friedman, former ASU vice president of the Downtown Phoenix campus and dean of ASU’s College of Public Programs. Friedman played a prominent role in public programs, civil rights, social work, community resources and modern arts in metropolitan Phoenix. She strengthened the mission of public universities to bridge the divide between engagement, access and excellence. She died Jan. 26 from lung cancer.
The exhibit will include new artwork and interactive art pieces by individual artists and community organizations. Artists engaged during her work in Phoenix to be showcased include Joseph “Sentrock” Perez, Carolina Parra, Felipe Ruiz, Martin Moreno, Dr. Eugene Grigsby and more. Organizational contributions include the Cultural Arts Coalition, Neighborhood Ministries, the Rag Collection, Hope Thru Art, Arizona State University’s College of Public Programs and ASU Emeritus College.
Artists and organizations will be on hand to discuss their work. Refreshments will be available. Complimentary parking at Arizona Center is available to guests. Artwork will be on display April 4 to 30.
