Ants and altruism: a key link to social evolution?

March 22, 2012

While altruism should not have evolved, ants are the most selfless creatures on the planet – giving themselves up for the good of the the ant colony. Why does this happen?

Pulitzer Prize winning co-author of "The Ants," ASU Foundation Professor Bert Hölldobler, a member of the new Center for Social Dynamics and Complexity at ASU and a sociobiologist, speaks about his experiences with ants and why they are so important for understanding the human species.

You can hear Hölldobler talk at the ASU Origins Project event "War and Peace in the World of Ants" at 6 p.m., March 30, in the Life Sciences A building, room 191.
