September 23, 2009

Women's cross country runner Anna Sperry has been named ASU's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 26th. Sperry was phenomenal down the stretch, catching another runner and winning the Dave Murray Invitational. This helped the Sun Devils capture the individual title for the third year in a row.

Competing in her first race for the Sun Devils, Sperry won the women's race at the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson on Friday night, covering the 3-mile course in 17:03.0 to win the title. A junior transfer from BYU, Sperry was trailing Maggie Callahan of Arizona with 250 meters remaining and kicked past the Wildcat to win the race, giving ASU's women the individual race title for the third year in a row and the sixth time in the last eight years.
