Alumna featured in 'National Law Journal'

September 21, 2010

Arizona Solicitor General Mary O’Grady (Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, Class of 1987) is profiled as “Appellate Lawyer of the Week” in a recent issue of The National Law Journal.

O’Grady will make her first argument before the U.S. Supreme Court in the new term in Chamber of Commerce of the United States v. Candelaria, where she will defend against a federal preemption challenging Arizona’s law imposing sanctions on employers hiring illegal aliens.

She also is involved in an Arizona school choice taxation case, a challenge to the state’s campaign finance law and a federal court battle over the Arizona’s new controversial immigration bill.

O’Grady, who has been Solicitor General for eight years, serves at the pleasure of the Attorney General. The current office holder, Terry Goddard, is termed out, and a new attorney general will be sworn in next January.
