Alum Dwayne Fontana named to San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame

Former Arizona State University basketball student-athlete Dwayne Fontana will be inducted into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame (SFPHF), May 16. The SFPHF has inducted 300 individuals and is the only program that annually honors former outstanding San Francisco high school student-athletes, coaches, officials, media personnel and other individuals who have contributed to San Francisco prep athletics.

In high school, Fontana was awarded the nickname "D.A.W." (Dunk at Will). From 1986-1990 he led Archbishop Riordan High School to the championships in the West Coast Athletic League, Central Coast Section and the first-ever Northern California title.

Fontana was awarded a basketball scholarship to attend ASU from 1990-94 and was on the 1991 Pacific-10 Conference All-Freshman Team. Fontana ended his career at ASU as the ninth-best rebounder in the school's history with 647 career boards. He was the first Sun Devil to score 1,100 points, grab 600 rebounds and shoot 54-percent in his career. Fontana was the team's second-leading scorer in 1992-93 with a 14.4 mark and averaged 10.1 points per game in his 110-game career. He became 15th on the all-time scoring list at ASU with 1,113 points.

After leaving ASU, Fontana played professional basketball in Australia, Spain, Israel, Iceland, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. He was inducted into the Riordan Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006 and currently is the Fitness Manager at 24 Hour Fitness in Pacifica, California.

The Hall of Fame program will be held at the Spanish Culture Center-Patio Espanol Restaurant in San Francisco, California. The reception begins at 6 p.m. PT on Saturday, May 16 and the awards presentation begins at 7 p.m.
