411 Gallery festivities celebrate inclusive communities

The College of Public Programs, University College and the School of Letters and Sciences opens the doors of ASU’s University Center to the community for its 411 Gallery Inclusive Communities Art Reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 13.

The event, featuring live music and performances, will take place at the University Center at 411 N. Central Avenue in Phoenix. It also will feature a showing of “Deaf Jam” – a film by Judy Lieff.

The exhibition includes more than 100 new and diverse pieces from community and student artists. The artwork focuses on pressing social issues connected to celebrating inclusive communities and the assets of individuals with disabilities.

The 411 Gallery is part of the action, advocacy, arts (aaa) program. The aaa program uses the arts as a central vehicle to build relationships among the community and ASU students, faculty, and staff. By sharing their stories and art, the community transforms the ASU University Center building into a hub of conversation, culture and social engagement focused on issues affecting the university and its surrounding communities.

The galleries are free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily, except for holidays. Guided tours may be arranged by appointment.
