Sign up for ASU Advisory messaging

Arizona State University has added an emergency messaging option for students, faculty and staff who wish to receive notifications for mid-level incidents such as a small fire or unexpected closure of a building on campus.

Even if you are signed up for ASU Alert, you will need to sign up for ASU Advisory.

Think of “ASU Advisory” as a tier below “ASU Alert.” While “ASU Alert” messages are sent during major emergencies that affect life/safety, an “ASU Advisory” will be sent in situations such as:


• Small fire in a building during hours when the building is closed.
• Power outage affecting part of campus during temperate times in the spring, fall and winter when extreme temperatures don’t threaten life/safety.
• Flooding in a building that will affect classes that day.
• Laboratory accident that affects a building.
• Crime bulletins where the public’s help is solicited or the police department wishes to inform the community about an incident or rash of incidents.
• Safety information at the beginning of a semester (traffic enforcement, etc.)
• Rising incidence of flu cases in campus residence halls and resultant flu vaccine clinics.

“ASU Alert” remains the universities primary communication method when an emergency involving life/safety occurs at one of ASU’s four campuses. Examples of when “ASU Alert” may be used include emergencies such as a major fire or an active police situation when lives are at risk.   

Members of the ASU community who have already signed up to receive emergency messages through “ASU Alert” can easily join the “ASU Advisory” group by:


• Sign on at asu.edu/alert or click on the ASU Alert icon at www.asu.edu
• Click on “groups” under the Dashboard.
• Click “subscribe” for the “ASU Advisory” group.
• You will get a notification that you have subscribed successfully.
• Log out.

If you’re signing up for “ASU Alert” and “ASU Advisory” for the first time, follow these steps:


• Sign on at asu.edu/alert or click on the ASU Alert icon at www.asu.edu
• Create a new user account.
• Input your cell number, carrier and email.
• Check “ASU Advisory” under optional groups.
• Check “agree to terms of service” after reviewing.
• Create the account and validate phone numbers and email to make it active.
• Follow “ASU Alert” on Twitter and sign up for the RSS feed if you’d like.
• Log out.

Signing up for the ASU Alert and ASU Advisory messaging services gives students, faculty and staff the opportunity to receive vital information during an incident through text messages, email and an RSS feed. In addition, ASU Alert is on Twitter and Facebook..
