Three ASU professors in The Design School recognized by DesignIntelligence
The latest rankings from the America’s Top Ranked Architecture & Design Schools survey conducted by DesignIntelligence recognized three Arizona State University faculty members among the most admired educators in their fields.
Joseph Ewan
Associate Professor Joseph Ewan and Clinical Assistant Professor Kristian Kelley were both recognized as most admired educators in landscape architecture, and Assistant Professor Milagros Zingoni (pictured above) was recognized as a most admired educator in interior design.
“It is rare for a school to even have one educator recognized, and we have three,” said Jason Schupbach, director of The Design School in ASU’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. “This represents how our peers, including industry, faculty and students from around the country, view us.”
The published rankings of admired educators include quotes on each winner from the surveys.
Ewan was highlighted as a professor who “brings a practical and professional side to his teaching that allows the students a very real-world work experience perspective.”
Kristian Kelley
Kelley was recognized for having “a great approach to design in his design studios, challenging the students to implement sustainable and unique designs. He encouraged us to think outside of the box and provided constructive criticism.”
Zingoni, who will receive the American Institute of Architects' 2019 Educator of the Year Award, Arizona Chapter, in November, was described as “someone who actively pushes the boundary in the field of interior design, strengthening the voice of this field through education. She equips her students with comprehensive skill sets, pulling from architectural knowledge. In addition, she takes all of her students under her wing, guiding them not only in the classroom but into the real world. Hands down, one of my biggest inspirations and role models.”
The 20th annual survey was conducted between March 22 and June 10 and also includes rankings on most admired schools, schools that professions say they hire from the most, and how recent graduates are performing in 12 key focus areas such as design theory and practice, design technology and research skills.
Milagros Zingoni
The Design School’s interior design program ranked No. 10 in most hired in its size category (20-39 graduates) program and No. 15 in most admired undergraduate programs.
The landscape architecture program ranked No. 20 in most admired undergraduate programs and No. 23 in most admired graduate programs. It also ranked No. 8 in most hired from its size group (35+ graduates) and No. 10 in focus areas in research in undergraduate programs.
The architecture program ranked No. 13 in most hired in its size category (70-99 graduates) and No. 39 in most admired graduate programs.
