April 24, 2015

Oswaldo Zapata, a Doctor of Musical Arts in trumpet performance student, was recently hired as the new instructor of high brass and mariachi ensemble at Texas A&M International University in Laredo. His position begins in August 2015.

"“I feel very excited to have found this opportunity that mixes my passion for trumpet and Hispanic music,”" Zapata said. “"My biggest challenges will be to take high brass and Hispanic music to a higher level of performance in south Texas, and to get active community involvement with the school. Texas A&M International University is an embracing community, and that will make my job very enjoyable.”"

Zapata is thankful for his time at Arizona State University. "The outstanding education that ASU provides prepared me to face this new phase of my life," he said. "The excellent faculty in the School of Music always made sure that I achieved my academic and professional goals, and helped me tailor my curriculum for that purpose.”"
