TEMPE, Ariz. – ASU Herberger College dance students and faculty will premiere the best original choreography from the Herberger College of Fine Arts during its highly anticipated MainStage New Danceworks concert series.  New Danceworks I runs Jan. 25-28 and New Danceworks II runs March 29 – April 1.

New Danceworks concerts are the best opportunities to see some of the most cutting-edge choreography and dance production created by young artists in the Valley,” says Pegge Vissicaro, interim dance chair.  “Students work on their choreography for months, then must pass a rigorous faculty review before being accepted for the concert.”

Past New Danceworks performers have gone on to start their own dance companies or join other prominent companies in Arizona, New York and beyond.

The January concerts feature stunning solo and group works by student choreographers Martha Howe and Ying Yang, and faculty member Karen Schupp. Professor Shouze Ma also sets a solo work on Ying Yang. Ma and Yang are internationally accomplished dancers whose precise style and cultural impact continue to propel MainStage Dance into new dimensions.

MainStage Dance concert tickets are $7-$20 and available through the Herberger College Box Office, 480-965-6447 or online athttp://herbergercollege.asu.edu/mainstage/New Danceworks I is Jan. 25-27, 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 28, 2 p.m.  New Danceworks II is March 29-31, 7:30 p.m. and April 1, 2 p.m.

The Department of Dance is a division of the Herberger College of Fine Arts at Arizona State University. Dance Teacher magazine says “the top-notch dance program graduates dancers who aren’t merely accomplished technicians, but critical thinkers and socially conscious advocates of the art form as well.”  To learn more, visit http://dance.asu.edu
