TEMPE, Ariz. – More than 40 ceramic artists, many with regional and national prominence, will participate in the fourth annual Self-Guided Ceramic Studio organized by the Artists Advisory Committee of the Arizona State University Art Museum Ceramic Research Center. The tours will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 26 and 27, 2005. A preview showing and sale of selected works by tour artists will take place on Friday, Feb. 25 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Ceramics Research Center.

Several newly selected artists will join already established artists for this exciting tour. Artists will exhibit and sell their work at private studios across the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Each studio will host between 1 and 10 artists. Several newly selected artists will join seasoned studio tour artists for this year’s exciting tour.

The annual self-guided studio tour attracts visitors who vary from ceramics aficionados to those who have never purchased ceramics other than a mug. The tour is free to the public, who can purchase items or just window shop and enjoy the demonstrations.

Tour participants will have the unique opportunity to meet artists face-to-face and go behind-the-scenes to see where the art is created. Artists captivate visitors with wheel throwing, hand building and glazing demonstrations throughout the two-day tour. Some studios will hold a drawing for a free handmade ceramic gift. Volunteers who coordinated last year’s event reported overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants.

For more information about the fourth annual Self-Guided Ceramic Studio Tour, members of the public should call the ASU Art Museum at (480) 965-2787. A brochure that includes pictures of artists’ work, directions to the studios and a schedule of demonstrations will be available after Jan. 15 by calling or visiting the museum, or in PDF format at http://asuartmuseum.asu.edu.

The Ceramics Research Center is part of the Arizona State University Art Museum, which was named “the single most impressive venue for contemporary art in Arizona” by Art in America. It is a division of the Herberger College of Fine Arts at Arizona State University. To learn more about the museum, visit http://asuartmuseum.asu.edu.
